“Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds” -Psalm 36:5
When you’re in a relationship, at the beginning of it, you and your partner may write each other many love letters. After a period of time, when life gets in the way, the letters may stop coming as often. It’s always good to go back to those letters and read of the love that you both shared,it’s a good reminder of the passion you felt at the beginning of the relationship. The love, although it is still there, it’s probably not expressed in the same way that it once was. Sometimes while reading those letters you feel as though you fall in love with your partner all over again.
In this same manner, God has placed love letters to us in the stories and accounts recorded in the Holy Bible. It is up to us to go back and read those words as a reminder of how much He loves us. The same love that He had for the people of Israel, is the same love that He has for us.
A love that was willing to sacrifice, a love that left the comforts of heaven to atone for our sins, a love that made a way when our eternal destination seemed bounded for damnation. That love stills exists and is available for us if we just reach out and accept it.
We are forgetful humans beings that tend to need a reminder of the deep, passionate love that once existed. Maybe you lost your passion but going back and reading about the love that you first shared, coming to know Christ, brings all those feelings back. The fire reignites...the passion reignites. We must practice this habit daily, of remembering that first love. You can reignite the passion in your relationship with God, by reading His written word every day and every time you doubt His love . It is reminder that He loves you just the same as He did when you first came to the knowledge and understanding of Him.
